Wyandotte Animal Hospital – Paul Crawshaw, DVM

Wyandotte Animal Hospital is a doctor-owned small animal veterinary clinic that has proudly served the Downriver community for over 20 years. Led by Dr. Crawshaw, the clinic is known for its personalized approach to veterinary care, emphasizing long-term relationships with pet owners and a strong focus on preventive medicine. “We’ve built so many meaningful connections over the years with families who trust us to provide the highest quality of care,” says Dr. Crawshaw. “Preventive care is at the core of what we do.”

One of the key aspects that sets Wyandotte Animal Hospital apart is its proactive approach to health monitoring. The team routinely recommends annual bloodwork, even for pets who appear healthy. “By identifying issues before a pet even shows signs of illness, we can intervene early and help them live longer, healthier lives,” Dr. Crawshaw explains.

The clinic commonly treats a wide range of conditions, with a particular emphasis on flea and tick prevention, which is especially important in Michigan’s climate. Dr. Crawshaw notes, “We tailor prevention plans to fit each family’s lifestyle. We also see a lot of allergy cases and work with pet owners to find the right combination of testing and medication to keep pets comfortable and itch-free.”

When it comes to aging pets, Wyandotte Animal Hospital has developed a special expertise. “Older pets are some of our favorites,” Dr. Crawshaw shares. “By that stage, they’ve usually known us for years and feel at ease here. We focus on managing age-related conditions with diet plans that support organ function – whether it’s kidney, liver, or urinary health.”

The clinic also demonstrates a deep commitment to aging pet owners in the community. “We’ve helped re-home pets when an elderly client can no longer care for them. Whenever possible, we aim to transfer the pet to a familiar family member to make the transition smoother,” says Dr. Crawshaw.

Beyond the clinic, Dr. Crawshaw and his team are deeply embedded in the local community. “I’m your neighbor,” he says. “It’s not unusual for clients to recognize me at Home Depot or a local restaurant. Some of them have become close friends over the years, and I love that connection.”

Despite the challenges facing the veterinary industry in recent years – including competition from online pharmacies, a shortage of skilled staff, and rising costs –Wyandotte Animal Hospital remains steadfast in its commitment to excellence. “The last five years have been tough for our industry, starting with the pandemic,” Dr. Crawshaw acknowledges.

“But we are working diligently every day to maintain the high standard of care our clients have come to expect from us.”
